CiteDrive 4.0: Beta testing coming soon!
Unlock the future of research management with our hybrid reference management and collaborative digital lab notebook. Organize within projects and on a central ‘bib’ library. Beta testing starts soon!
INTRO
After more than a year, CiteDrive 4.0 is in the starting blocks! This release will be the biggest yet, introducing a completely new design that continues to focus on simplicity and ease of use. It also offers many new features, including the most requested and anticipated global/centralized library of all references. In addition to the project-based reference management experience you’ve come to know, you’ll now be able to view all collected references in this library and readily assign them across projects. Furthermore, the user interface has been completely redesigned with accessibility in mind. List views are available for a better organization and overview of the references, including detailed and compact views and groups next to the tags. We’ve also introduced a Labnotes feature that allows you to add context to references you’ve collected.
Centralized library file
From conversations with many users over the last few years, it became clear that something missing in the design philosophy for CiteDrive was the idea of carrying references forward with you across projects– a central library that represents your cumulative references over time.
We’re thrilled to share that the long wait for this is finally over! You can still organize your references and co-authors in projects (by books, publication topics, etc.), but you no longer need to add the same reference multiple times. Instead, you can import them from other projects and the centralized library.
New interface
As part of our evolution to support central reference libraries, we’ve also taken the opportunity to introduce some significant design improvements to CiteDrive’s user experience in order to continue our relentless pursuit of focusing on simplicity and ease of use. In addition to tags, you can now organize project references into groups that align to sections or concepts in your project, and there is the option to switch between tabular and detailed views. We have also refreshed the UI with additional accessibility concerns in mind.
Labnotes // Note box
One of the major new features in CiteDrive 4.0 is the innovative concept of Labnotes, which is based on the tried and tested note box principle. This feature allows you to organize your research notes, thoughts, and ideas clearly and intuitively, particularly by "linking" your thoughts and ideas in the context of your literature sources directly between your BibTeX entry and a Markdown file. Keep your information and data flat and readable for other programs such as Obsidian and Zettr.
The Labnotes area, which you can see directly in the details of your references, can be seen as a virtual notepad where you can record your research snippets, to-do lists, and spontaneous ideas. The unique thing about it is the ability to seamlessly link these notes with your references. This creates a well-thought-out link between your thoughts and the corresponding sources.
This feature also allows you to share your Labnotes with other users to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing. You can further structure your notes and filter them according to specific topics or projects by integrating tags and groups.
Whether you are working on a large research project or simply want to capture spontaneous ideas, Labnotes in CiteDrive 4.0 gives you the flexibility and tools to organize your thoughts and link them to your references efficiently.
This feature is more than a simple note-taking service; it’s a powerful tool for fostering creativity and collaboration in research, making CiteDrive much more than a reference manager but your ultimate research and knowledge database.
